the red sox and yankees have all the good players like for example when a free agent gets on there he just get sucked up by one of those teams because of a big contract which gives the advantage all year and i wish that bud selig would do something about it
They're just the two biggest examples of owners that re-invest in their team. More clubs could do this, but the owners are too cheap to invest their own money into their clubs. The teams at the bottom of the salary list, the ones who are getting money from the luxury tax that the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and one or two other teams might be paying (Angels? Braves? Tigers?) should be using that to sign free agents, but instead they're paying off the debt they incurred when they bought their team.
Limiting teams to "one big contract" is basically restricting the players' abilities to earn all they can, and the players' union would never go for it. It's not up to Bud Selig to "do something about it". Revenues and profitability in baseball have grown exponentially since he took over as commissioner, so for everything that he's done that you don't agree with, he's done 10 other things that have contributed to baseball's bottom line. That's why he makes $17m a year.
